Located on a 1,000 acre peninsula surrounded by beautiful Payette Lake, Ponderosa State Park is a great spot for fantastic outdoor recreation. Ponderosa State Park features scenic trails, lake activities, and a variety of Idaho wildlife. The park has 14.3 miles of trails just for Nordic Skiing and 3.4 miles of other trails for hiking and biking. Ponderosa offers guided walks as well, so you won't miss any of the gorgeous scenery of this park. A beach and picnic area is in the North Beach unit of the park for a delightful afternoon by Payette Lake. Conoeing and kayaking are popular activities in this area, and Ponderosa is a great place to engage in this recreation.
You'll see numerous kinds of plant life in this park including various fir and pine trees with of course, the park's namesake trees, the ponderosa pine, which is a 150 foot tall tree. Animals in the park include Canada geese, osprey, bald eagles, ducks, mallards, wood ducks, songbirds, deer, moose, beaver, muskrat, and bears. If you'd like to observe the Idaho wildlife during both the daytime and the evening, primitive camping is also offered at this park.
