Fiddletown in Weiser near Donnelly, Idaho is known as a great place to visit and an even greater place to stay. Each year the town puts on the National Oldtime Fiddlers Contest. This contest brings people from miles around. It's a huge event. The Fiddlers Contest has been going on since 1953, and Fiddletown has been its host all these years. This annual festival is a way for the town to kept fiddle music alive for many generations. Their dedication to preserving and promoting it is the reason behind the National Oldtime Fiddlers Contest. Visitors get the chance to see the best fiddlers and musicians in the world. During the contest is not the only opportunity you'll get to listen to the music. The contest is held in the Weiser High School gym. Most of the fiddlers come in campers, tents and RVs that they park behind the high school. When the contest is over for the night, the performers all get together around their RVs, tents and jam and sing all through the night. If you love old time music, Fiddletown is the place to be.
Although the contest is less than a block from FiddleTown, this contest has put Fiddletown on the map, so to speak. They have such a large turnout for this contest that they use the football field for parking as well. So many of the musicians use heavy instruments so transportation back and forth is provided as well. FiddleTown is constantly going through changes to accommodate the contest and the participants. They are adding a new softball diamond, which may cut into the parking spaces for the Fiddlers Contest, but will stay find room for the guests and musicians.
