Kitty Hoynes Irish Pub & Restaurant in Syracuse, New York is a traditional pub with a warm atmosphere and plenty of live Irish/Celtic music.David Hoyne and his wife, Cindy, opened the restaurant in July 1999. The restaurant was named after David's late mother, Catherine (Kitty) Hoyne. Both of David's parents came from Ireland, and Ireland is where David was born. In Ireland he learned about the hospitality trade by working in his father's business, Wm. Hoyne and Sons.
Kitty Hoynes, the restaurant, is very involved in the community. It regularly contributes to charities. One charity the owner's of the restaurant donate to is Project Children. Project children brings Catholic and Protestant children to the States from Northern Ireland. The children spend six weeks with a host family.
Each year Kitty Hoynes runs a golf tournament. The proceeds from the tournament are used for donations for Project Children.
The outside of the Kitty Hoynes Irish Pub and Restaurant is designed to look like a traditional Irish shop front. There's the Wm. Hoyne and Sons signage and Irish artifacts.
The décor inside has ornate decorative detail, beveled and gilded mirrors, a tiled mosaic floor, stained glass windows, and an impressive dark mahogany back bar and counter with a clock centerpiece. Ceilings are high and the walls are dark wood raised paneling. Padded stools and low cast iron tables complete the look of a traditional Irish pub.
The restaurant has established a reputation for the quality of the Guinness draft it serves. The Guinness Brewing awarded Kitty Hoynes Irish Pub and Restaurant with their "Perfect Pint" diploma.
