In addition to the continuous use of the Geddes athletic fields by the youth of this Syracuse-area community, the location has some significant history as well. Syracuse University put its first football team on the gridiron at this site. In addition, the Syracuse Stars minor league baseball team played games here after being accepted into the American Association many years ago.
Located at Fay Road and Grand Avenue near Syracuse, Geddes field is also associated with Bishop Ludden High School in the 800 block of Fay Road.
The Geddes Athletic Fields site, at the corner of Grand Avenue and Fay Road, has four ball fields now, in addition to a football field and a soccer field. The park complex includes a picnic pavilion, playground equipment and modern restroom facilities. Geddes Athletic Fields are currently used by Little League baseball teams, Geddes/Westvale Pop Warner football and league soccer teams, as well as by the general public. The town board discussed plans recently to rebuild the pavilion at Geddes Athletic Field, and may search for a new contractor for the upgrade.
The community of Geddes, in the Syracuse metropolitan area, also has a nine-hole golf course (at Burnet Park) and ice skating rink, swimming pool and numerous baseball fields for league and public use. All of the facilities, including Geddes, are maintained by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth for the community. West End baseball leagues use Lewis Park, in the same general area.
