Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra Valentine's Day Recital
For those who love classical music or opera, listening to the 2008 Valentine's Day St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in Missouri, with the pianist Orli Shaham playing Chopin was a dream. Next Valentine's Day, the famous "Verdi's Requiem" has been scheduled-- an 80 to 90 minute performance of the premium orchestral series on Saturday, February 13 and 14th, with David Robertson conducting.
The Requiem was completed to mark the first anniversary of the death of Alessandro Manzoni, an Italian poet and novelist whom Verdi admired, which is an excellent choice for romantics on Valentine's Day. Extremely dramatic, LaOpera describes the transcendent Requiem as a heartfelt rumination on life and death—faith, doubt, heaven and hell with breathtaking beauty and thrilling suspense. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by enjoying a work of art that has transcending reality over the years.
Located at St. Louis, MO, the Powell Symphony Hall has been the home of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra since 1966. But the 2,700-seat historical building was originally a vaudeville hall and movie palace, since then being magnificently remodeled and restored to a work of wonder, featuring the most exquisite chandeliers and grand staircases. An influence of Louis XIV's Royal Chapel at Versailles is seen in the Powell Symphony Hall's entry way, with the overall building having the world's best sound acoustics and a permanent orchestra shell. The high-point is a stained glass window of St. Louis XIV riding a majestic stallion, with invited world-renowned performers adding to the classic atmosphere of the Saint Louis Sympony on Valentine's Day and any other day.
