St. Augustine's 19th Century Old Jail Tour is an enthralling look at the city's criminal history. Built in 1891 and operational until 1951, the jail is one of few surviving 19th century jails. Built by the same company that built the legendary Alcatrez Prison, the jail was financed by local oil and railroad billionare, Henry Flagler. Since the current jail was proving to be an eyesore for his newly build luxury hotel, Flagler provided the financing for it to be torn down and a new jail rebuilt to resemble a modern hotel. Tour the jail as a prisoner and listen as talented actors protray deputies or prisoners and tell stories about those that once lived in the jail. See the gallows and view the weapons used in actual crimes and their punishments. The jail tour is sure to prove an "arresting" visit for all it's guests.
Get away from your daily life for a little fun St. Augustine style! The Escape To The Old Jail vacation package is a great educational opportunity as well as being entertaining, so bring the kids!
