St Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park in St Augustine, FL
St Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park in St Augustine, FL was established over 100 years ago in 1893 and over the years has become a huge attraction for the area. Both alligators and imported crocodiles reside in this park in a natural, realistic setting. In fact, this alligator farm is home to the only complete collection of crocodilian species, 23 of them, in the entire world.
There are over 1,000 gators and crocs in the park including some rare albino ones that were caught in the swamps of Louisiana. A few of these crocodilians are huge like the park's unofficial representative Maximo who measures up at a little over 15 feet and weighs in at 1250 pounds or so. Only about 35 years of age, he could live to about 70!
Crocs and gators are not the only attractions here. St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park also has an outstanding rookery which is home to many native birds like egrets, herons, ibises and more. These birds as well as the swans, ducks and geese make the marshy areas and ponds home.
Visiting this park you will see some great educational exhibits as well as some up close and personal presentations of baby crocodilians, snakes and even exotic birds and other animals from the rainforest. Make sure that you do not miss the alligator feedings because watching these magnificent beasts vault out of the water is heart pounding fun!
The Alligator Farm and Zoological Park is easily accessible and located right off the Intracoastal Waterway near St. Augustine. There are both individually priced admissions as well as group packages. The Park is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except in the summers when it is 6:00 p.m. This is truly a fun experience that the whole family will enjoy.
