Teepeetown, Christmas Shop and Columbia Gift Shop and the Authentic Old Drugstore in St.
Augustine, Florida, make up what is considered by some as the largest gift/collectible source in the world. Authentic Old Drugstore is located at 31 Orange Street in St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States. If you are in the market for Americana Christmas, Calico Kittens, Cherised Teddies, Disney Classics, Jim Shore Heartwood Creek, Precious Moments and many other gift/collectible items, this interesting store is the place to go.
In addition, this shop with the "traditional" look also offers stationary, sunglasses, sundries, greeting cards, cameras and batteries, just like more modern drug stores. The Authentic Old Drugstore was originally built in 1739, selling medicines, tobacco, liquor and what was then known as "Indian remedies."
A pharmacist purchased the building and eventually moved the business to its current location (in 1887). The business was purchased by the Harris Foundation in the 1980s and that group retains ownership. After a series of extensive repairs the Harris Foundation opened the site as a fascinating museum. Maintenance and upkeep are supported by sales from the gift shop.
Keep in mind that the Authentic Old Drugstore is quite different from modern pharmacies. Located on Orange Street at the corner of Cordova, the wonderful atmosphere comes from the wooden floors, period cash registers as well as a great apothecary containing bottles of old remedies, elixirs and tonics.
