Anastasia State Park has a fine beach, nature trails and an historic site to make a great day out or a longer camping trip. The area is popular for all types of outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing, windsurfing and hiking.
There are self-guided nature trails around the park, with a free brochure available which details the local birds, animals and plantlife. Visitors can see the the birds feeding at low tide and hear the owls at sundown. The park is managed as it would have appeared to the first European settlers with its hammock forest and natural coastline, and beach with dunes and tidal marshes.
The coquina quarries, that were mined over 300 years ago by Native American and black slaves are on the National Register of Historic Places. These rock outcrops, made of tiny shell fragments, can be seen in the park, and the extracted rock was used to build the nearby Castillo de San Marcos.
There is a campground shaded by trees, and within walking distance of the beach. There are over 130 sites for tents and RVs with picnic table, grill, and water supply. The Salt Run Outpost has camping and fishing supplies, ice and firewood, and rents out bikes and watersport equipment. The beach is popular with swimmers and surfers and there is a lifeguard during high summer. There is a picnic area close to the shore and a pavilion available for private rental. It is also a great place for fishing and visitors can enter the Fish of the Month Contest.
