Major Events In and Around Snowbird, UTWhile you're in Snowbird, you'll find much going on in and around this city. Being only 25 miles from Salt Lake City and 35 and a half miles from Park City, Snowbird is within a close radius of many events. Below is a list of events that you will not want to miss while you're visiting Snowbird. Snowbird hosts an annual celebration of this famous German festival. The celebration lasts from mid-August until early October; Oktoberfest is celebrated every weekend during this period. From noon until 6 p.m., you'll find an array of family-friendly entertainment, food, and beverages at the Oktoberfest Halle at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort. Items made by local crafters and artists are also available for purchase during the festival. This nationally renowned festival is one of Park City's biggest events and less than an hour away from Snowbird. During this 10-day event, visitors will be able to see film screenings, attend parties, indulge in some great dining, and participate in a plethora of other special events. Though the festival is based at Park City's Kimball Art Center, some of the events will be hosted around Salt Lake City as well. Salt Lake City's Festival of Trees is a perfect event to visit if you're vacationing around Christmas time. This festival features over 600 Christmas trees, all differently decorated. You'll walk through the Christmas Forest where you'll see the decorated trees and some gingerbread houses here and there. Festival of the Trees also features holiday crafts and homemade candy available for purchase and live entertainment. With the festival being available to visitors from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., you can take a stroll through the trees during the daytime or at night when they are lit up. Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort Events Snowbird offers special events and competitions year-round, so any time you're making your stay at this resort, you'll find many events to watch or participate in. One annual event that occurs in August is the Snowbird/Alta Silver Spur, which features three sports events—a mountain run, climbing, and mountain biking—that competitors may do individually or as a triathlon. Other events include several music shows per month at the Aerie, stargazing with astronomy experts, and other competitions including the Widowmaker Mountain Bike Race and the Ski & Sports Swap.
