Every year Red Rock Fantasy, hosted by Los Abrigados Resort & Spa, attracts thousands of visitors and tour groups to Sedona. Originally thought up as a way to boost tourism during the slow winter months and to support local charities, this annual holiday light extravaganza has become a hot spot for winter travel due to its million twinkling lights appeal.
The Festival begins in mid-November each year with the "Lights On Ceremony" and ends on January 1 with the "Lights Out Ceremony." The Festival is open every evening hosting various events around the grounds including kids activities, concerts, carriage rides, and special events.
Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised in past years for local charities by Red Rock Fantasy, with contributions going to both charity companies and local families in need. What sets Red Rock Fantasy apart from other holiday light festivals is that it is not decorated in any part by professionals.
When the original idea was thought up, the goal was to boost tourism with little cost. Red Rock Fantasy is decorated completely by the residents of Sedona who take part in a fierce competition at the resort. In return for all their hard work towards making Red Rock Fantasy flourish, contestants and their families receive all expense paid stays at the resort in the week they have to decorate. The grand prize for the best display, as voted by the thousands of people who visit the extravaganza each year, is a one week vacation ownership with IRX resorts for life.
