It is a good idea to learn the weather patterns of the local area; however, when planning your Sedona vacation. Our weather guide can provide you with a general idea of what you can expect seasonally in Sedona as well as how to combat inclement weather on the occasions when it does occur.

For the most part, Sedona offers weather that is mild and pleasant year around. The temperatures in Sedona tend to be cooler throughout the year than many other parts of the state, thanks to Sedona's 4,500 foot altitude. Unless you are planning to attend a formal event you will not need to pack anything dressier than comfortable and breathable clothing.

Spring

The busiest visitor season in the Sedona area is spring. As the temperatures rarely rise above the low 80s it is easy to see why so many visitors flock to Sedona from March through May. For outdoor activities such as hiking, shopping and taking jeep tours the weather in Sedona during the spring is practically perfect. The evenings can be somewhat chilly, so it is a good idea to plan to pack some clothing which you can layer such as T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts and light jackets and sweaters.

Summer

From June through September the weather in Sedona warms up; however, it does even begin to reach close to the three digit temperatures that are common throughout other parts of Arizona. This is one reason why so many people choose Sedona for the summer season. The average 90 degree weather provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the many outdoor activities. It is a good idea to make sure you bring along plenty of sunscreen as well as a rain jacket or poncho as the area is susceptible to occasional rain showers in the summer.

Fall

The changing leaves set against the red rocks in the Sedona area provide a beautiful introduction to fall. From October through November the average high temperatures range between the mid-60s and the low 70s. Evenings can be somewhat crisp, so it is a good idea to pack some clothing which you can layer for those chilly nights.

Winter

While spring and fall present nearly perfect weather for visitors to Sedona, there is also quite a bit to be said for the weather during the winter as well. Crowds tend to be smaller during this time and the slight dusting of snow on the red rocks is absolutely breathtaking. Compared to winter in other areas, temperatures are relatively warm in Sedona and rarely dip below the mid-50s. Layers are the perfect way to combat the evenings, which can be chilly. If you plan to partake in any outdoor activities it is a good idea to bring along a sturdy pair of boots for the occasional snowfall. Most of the fall tends to accumulate around the top of the Mogollon Rim. The actual city of Sedona rarely receives much snow and the snow that does fall does not often stick to the roads or the sidewalks.
