The Lincoln Park on Fauntleroy Way in Seattle was formerly known as the Fauntleroy Park and dates back to the early 1900s. Developed in stages as the city developed, the park is, today, one of the most popular destinations for sprightly children and families looking for a quiet day outdoors.
The most popular attraction at the Lincoln Park is undoubtedly the Coleman Pool, which first began as a tide-fed splashing pond in the early years. It was only in 1941, that moved by the popularity of the park, Kenneth Coleman donated $150,000 to concretize the bottom and the sides. There's plenty more the park has to offer visitors apart from the Lincoln Wading Pool. Young children can gambol in carefree abandon in the designated play areas and you can even carry a basket along to the five picnic shelters that dot the park. These shelters also provide outdoor grill facilities and boast of a capacity to house a maximum of 300 visitors. Daily charges for the shelters are priced at about $50, which also allow you access to the outdoor tables.
Hiking enthusiasts will revel in the 5 miles of breathtaking scenery the park allows them. Renowned for its dense vegetation, the park offers plenty of opportunities for nature lovers to explore the flora and fauna which are native to this region. There are also daytime football and soccer fields where youngsters can hone their skills. The Lincoln Park is also dotted with restrooms at convenient locations to ensure that your visit to the park is as relaxed as you would want it to be.
The park is open to visitors from 4 am until 11.30 in the evening. For further information, you can call the Information Center at (206) 684-4075.
