Spend an afternoon relaxing by Ballard Locks. Ballard Locks is place where you can watch all types of boats sail through
Puget Sound from Salmon Bay. The scenic area is the ideal spot for couples or the whole family. Ballard Locks in located at 3015 NW 54th Street in Seattle. You can call the visitor center for more information at 206-783-2059.
Ballard Locks also has a fish ladder where you can view salmon underwater. This gallery will let you see the salmon make their way to their spawning ground. You may even see some other animals such as a sea lion. You will need to visit the locks at the right time to see the salmon in action. You can see them on my months except from November to February and May.
The visitor center near the Ballard Locks will educate you further on the history of the locks and what the locks has been used for then and now. You can also find some other interesting places to visit in the area since the visitor center will provide pamphlets as well as an knowledgeable attendant.
There are some other places you may want to visit while spending the day at Ballard Locks. Visit the Lockspot Cafe for some lunch or dinner. You can also travel only a mile down the road to Golden Gardens State Park and Shilshole Marina. If you are interested in relaxing at the beach, visit Discovery Park or Golden Gardens Beach. You might also want to try nearby Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Gardens.
