Massie School opened in 1856 as Savannah’s first free public school, in operations continuously except for its use as a Union hospital during the Civil War Federal occupation of the city and as a Freedmen’s school during Reconstruction.

Shut down as an ordinary school in 1974, Massie revived in 1977 as an instructive historical center for history, schoolhouses, and engineering with programs pulling in members hailing from all around the globe, serving more than 20,000 guests each and every year. This site produces displays and projects consistently.

For an astounding 150 years, Massie has provided classes to the inhabitants of Savannah and the encompassing region. Today, we proceed with a convention of producing high-caliber, interactive programs for guests of all ages and skill levels.

Massie School houses five perpetual displays concentrated on Savannah's history, engineering, and development. Savannah's City Plan incorporates 3-D model of Savannah's 2.2 square mile Landmark Historic District, Savannah's Architectural Styles, Historic Preservation, Heritage Classroom, and Native Americans in Coastal Georgia. Whether you are a history lover or simply wish to uncover the methods used to educate a metropolis, an intricate dive into the essence of this astounding array of collections is sure to be fascinating and equally cherished by your party.
