An enchanting Grecian temple and an educational enhancement of the city, this monument is not to be missed. Originally a temporary site for the 1915 Pan-Pacific International Exhibition, the Palace of Fine Arts has become a well-loved addition to the city's repertoire.  Located at the corner of Baker and Beach streets, not too far from the Golden Gate Bridge, the building has a memorable golden glow mirrored in the adjacent lagoon, a mere precursor to the gems inside.

Walk between its ornate, free-standing columns, underneath the towering dome, and down the long corridors to instantly enter an ancient world where such constructions remind us of our frailty and small stature. The surroundings are peaceful and serene with an eerie sense of time's talent for age and ruin. Inside is the Exploratorium museum where people of all ages can explore and learn in a fun and unique way.  In the gallery is also the sizable Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, which holds events and is often rented for private events.
