This historic house was built just after the Gold Rush and was a family residence until the late 1880s when it was acquired by a utility company.
This home was saved from ruin when it was purchased for $1 in 1952 by the California Society and renovated in 1953. The exterior is much like it was when first built, but the inside has undergone extensive remodeling. Inside there are impressive exhibits including, antique furniture, a library, and incredible documents bearing 54 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence.
