Located on the northern end of the
Golden Gate Bridge, the Lone Sailor Statue stands tall and honors the men and women shipped out of San Francisco Bay to serve their country in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. The bronze statue stands seven feet tall, weighs over 800 pounds, and is surrounded by four sculptures depicting the sea services. Millions of military personnel have been shipped out of San Francisco throughout history, and some of them never returned. This memorial is to honor their memory and pay tribute to their service.
