Livermore Valley Wine Country near San Francisco, CA is one of the oldest wine regions in California. This area, only an hour away from Sand Francisco, has more than 36 wineries with beautiful full vineyards that make up more than 5,000 acres. There are varieties of types of wineries in Livermore from the same vineyards owned by small families to huge vineyards that are operated by the leaders of the wine industry in California such as Wente or Concannon. Depending on which individual wineries you visit, you will find different interesting activities and events. Most of the wineries have tasting rooms where visitors can taste different samples of their wines. Not only is this fun and interesting for the visitors, but good publicity and public relations for the vineyard owner.
One of the major events in the area is the Harvest Wine Celebration, which is held the weekend of Labor Day each year. This is a huge event in the area, drawing a crowd of over 500,000 visitors each year. This, however, is just one of many events that are held in the Livermore Valley. Livermore Valley got its start as wine country by Robert Livermore, who planted the first commercial wine vines in the 1840s. Since the start of the Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association, many people are able to start their own vineyards in the area. They are there to help individuals get started so you don't have to be a huge corporation or business to start a vineyard or winery if you already own the land. This is how many of the locals make a living in the area, making this a beautiful country to visit and admire.
