This historical landmark is the largest Gothic structure in the nation, rising 255 feet above street level. The main features are the famous gilded bronze doors created in the 15
th century, high arched columns, vaulted ceilings supporting delicate stained glass windows, its sizable organ, and the left tower holding over 40 bells. Leading up the front 40 steps are the doors, or "Gates of Paradise." A stunning vision, the cathedral opens to the public every day during business hours to share its history and art.
Inside the entryway is the labyrinth and the nave, replicas from the Chartre Cathedral in France. Surrounded by the Meditation Garden, the labyrinth is the first permanent one outside Europe of its size. The Great Organ, installed in 1933, swallows nearly an entire wall alone, and just above it is the trademark rose window, gleaming with 3,800 colored glass bricks.
