Angel Island, the largest island in San Francisco Bay, brings outdoor adventure seekers to its shores in large numbers. Located just a mile from the Tiburon Peninsula, Angel Island holds 740 acres of park area, and its highest point is Mt. Livermore at 788 feet. This state park and nature reserve provides great opportunities to see beautiful views of the Bay Area, including the
Golden Gate Bridge and
Alcatraz Island. Visitors to Angel Island may enjoy all sorts of outdoor recreation such as biking, parasailing, and camping, and more.
Left behind from the natives--the Miwok Indians--are camps at different sites on the island such as Ayala Cove, Camp Reynolds, and the Immigration Station. The Immigration Station has been refurbished into a museum where, since 1910, visitors have learned island history and details of the "Ellis Island of the West." Visit the café for a refresher or bike rental or relax your legs on a tram tour. Angel Island has much to offer for sightseers and adventure seekers.
