CUESA's annual Sunday Supper fundraiser at the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco, CA
Every year in October, the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA) holds its annual Sunday Supper celebration in San Francisco, California. CUESA is the nonprofit organization that is responsible for the twice-weekly farmer's market that is held at the San Francisco Ferry Building every Tuesday and Saturday. A farmer's market visit is a must on any visit to SF, where anyone can by seasonal, organic and sustainably grown produce from local farmers. The Bay Area is one of America's hot spots for eating locally and organically, and many events are held where attendees can dine on local sustainable fare. The CUESA Sunday Supper, however, is the creme de la creme when it comes to these events.
With tickets for the reception and dinner starting at $200 per person, attending the Sunday Supper is not cheap, but many say it is well worth the ticket price. More than 50 Bay Area chefs attend the event to serve a five-course meal in the Ferry Plaza building. The evening starts with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, and then continues on to a family-style meal. Each table is assigned three chefs, and no table gets the same meal. This makes for interesting conversations about who-ate-what at the end of the evening. All food served is from local, sustainable farms and all proceeds from the event go to benefit CUESA.
