This city park attempts to recreate life in San Diego between the times of 1821 to 1872 by incorporating Spanish style and early American Architecture into the design.
San Diego was California's first Spanish settlement, as there was a mission and a fort established in the area in 1769. The park complex includes five original adobes that are used as shops, restaurants, and a museum. There are several other historic buildings including a schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, the cities first newspaper office, and a stable with a carriage collection. The Historic Park and surrounding area are a popular tourist destination, known especially for its authentic Mexican restaurants. The park itself hosts four eating establishments: The Cosmopolitan Restaurant, The Jolly Boy Restaurant and Saloon, Casa de Reyes, and El Fandango.
