The Mount Soledad Veteran's Memorial located in San Diego, California is an amazing testament to honor the men and women that have served or are currently on active duty in the armed forces. The memorial consists of six concentric walls and is still being built upon. When finished it will have over 3200 black granite plaques that are purchased by those that would like to donate and honor someone they know in the armed forces. These plaques are engraved with the name as well as a photo of those serving in the wars. Currently, there are over 2100 of these plaques in place on the walls with more added each year.
The plaques honor the person or people that the donor would like and they tell the story of the veteran's military service. Some are designed to provide information about a group of military individuals. The plaques come from throughout the United States as well as from all wars and conflicts that they have engaged in. Originally, it was designed and dedicated as a Korean War memorial, but this was later changed to include people from all types of conflict. Additionally, brick pavers have been placed to honor those that supported the Mount Soledad building.
