Located just north of downtown San Diego, the Carlsbad Flower Fields offers a sea of beautiful blooming flowers every March.
The fields are 50-acre stretch of blooming blossoms of a wide assortment of flowers in a many different colors including red, orange, yellow, and purple. The Giant Ranunculus bulbs are there main bulb cultivated and they are some of the most beautiful flowers due to the many petals it has and the range of many vibrant colors. Although it was not originally intended to be a botanical garden, after years of tourist and locals flocking to the fields to catch a glimpse of the beautiful spring colors, they decided to charge admission. The fields are actually a commercial growing production which is mostly intended for growing bulbs. They only sell one to two percent of the flowers, however that still averages almost a million flower stems. This is still a minimal number compared to the 6 million bulbs it produces each year.
They have added a few new treats this year including a Sweet Pea Maze, a Historic Poinsettia Display and a field of flowers that are strategically planted like an American Flag. The fields also feature a Miniature Rose Garden which has received The Award of Excellence by The American Rose Society, which is the society's highest award given. The fields are open daily from early March through late May. There is free parking and a small admission fee.
