San Diego City Tour

If you are traveling to San Diego, then try not be too caught up in the spectacle of theme parks to notice that you are actually in San Diego—America's Finest City, and one with a rich heritage dating back to 1499. While it's fine to tour the "land" that is Disney or the "world" under the Sea, don't forget to tour the actual city of San Diego and take in the cultural personality. You can enjoy sightseeing and listen to some well-read and experienced tour guides who can teach you something interesting about one of America's premier cities. What can you expect from San Diego City Tours?

First consider the San Diego City Tour. The San Diego City Tour is a narrated tour of the many historic locales of San Diego, from the downtown area to La Jolla. There are many breathtaking coastal views and fascinating architecture to take in. On this tour you get to see views from Embarcardero, as well as the Exposition Museum buildings in Balboa Park. Another interesting sight to see is the landmark Hotel Del Coronado. The hotel is one of the oldest buildings in all of California, dating back to 1885, and also one of the most famous and infamous. The hotel is famous for its celebrity clientele and for one unwelcome resident: the ghost of Kate Morgan.

You can also get a San Diego City Tour as part of a package deal, together with Seaport Village stop, which lets visitors into the Seaport Village shopping center; a San Diego City Tour with harbor excursion, which lets you see the best of San Diego from land and from water; and San Diego City Tour and Tijuana, which takes you to all of San Diego and to the Mexico border in Tijuana. The San Diego City Tour is four hours, not counting the extra excursions. It makes for a great half-day activity.

The San Diego Grand Tour is much longer as it combines three tours in one. It includes the city of San Diego as well as the harbor and parts of southern neighbor Tijuana. You will see some of the city's most talked-about locations including downtown San Diego, the Gaslamp Quarter, Balboa Park and Old Town. Following the city tour, you will take off on a harbor cruise so you can see naval ships and marine life in its natural habitat. Tijuana is just as impressive, if a bit more colorful. You get to shop at the Avenida Revolucion and experience authentic Mexican culture.

Because this tour is more elaborate, it takes about nine hours to complete. Keep in mind that all U.S. citizens must bring photo identification and proof of citizenship (such as a birth certificate) if not a passport. Non-citizens must have a passport or a Resident Alien Card so that they can re-enter on the trip back. While many shops and restaurants in Tijuana do accept American currency, not all will. Therefore you may want to keep more than a few pesos on hand for your grand vacation.

San Diego city tours are a great way to experience the real city—not just the excitement of an out-of-state vacation.
