Museums and Culture in San DiegoSan Diego offers you many attractions, from the San Diego Zoo and Wildlife Park to great shopping and dining opportunities. The area has a rich history, as well, though and you can find some truly wonderful places to explore that history. From the history of the early inhabitants to the coming of the Spanish and European settlers to the art of the past and present, you can find a wide variety of different museums and cultural facilities in this amazing city. The San Diego Museum of Art Located in amazing Balboa Park, the San Diego Museum of Art began life in the late 1920's. It features some inspiring architecture and is itself, a historical landmark. With amazing pieces that range from 5,000 B.C. to the present, you can find some very interesting art. There is a particularly fine offering of Spanish works as well as a nice collection of Asian pieces. There are also great works by Italian masters as well as modern masters in their collection. The San Diego Aerospace Museum This museum is dedicated to aircraft of all kinds and those who love them. With exhibits from the Dawn of Flight, detailing the Wright brothers' exploits, to the International Hall of Fame, you can find a wide variety of different aircraft and great information. There are rare aircraft from WWI, as well as famous airplanes and even some spacecraft to be found in the museum. The Japanese Friendship Garden Beginning life as a teahouse, the Japanese Friendship Garden has blossomed into a unique museum. With offerings from a Zen garden to bonsai and other traditional Japanese garden items, you can find sushi lessons and more in this wonderful little museum. The Museum of San Diego History This museum offers a comprehensive view of all of San Diego History. Beginning with the ancient nomadic hunter-gatherers of the area and moving down through time to the present, this museum offers a great look at the many cultures and events that have shaped the area and the city of San Diego itself. If you are interested in automobiles, this is the place for you. From classics to modern inventions, from engines to transmissions and one of a kind vehicles, you can get your gears going in this great museum. Located in Balboa Park, the Automotive Museum offers a great look at automobiles from all ages and nations. San Diego Model Railroad Museum Every boy loves trains and many adults as well. Model trains have been a part of our society for decades; this is the chance to pass on that love and tradition to a new generation or just enjoy the sights and sounds. You can find an amazing variety of unique model trains and custom built tracks in this fun museum. There are tons more things to explore in the city, from museums to cultural centers. To fully explore all that San Diego has to offer, prepare to spend some serious time. |

I have been to zoo's all over the nation and I have to admit the san diego zoo is even better then the st louis zoo, the animals are phenomical
