Coffins On Parade on the River Walk in San Antonio, TX
The River Walk in downtown San Antonio gets ghoulish for a favorite Halloween happening. Hosted by the Paseo Del Rio Association, boats laden with decorated coffins float in procession down the San Antonio River.
Spectators line the river banks for a good view, while barges like the Heart of San Antonio carry the eerie processional down the river. Held during the late afternoon to evening, the festivities carry on after the Parade, with a carnival-style river party.
The party continues into the night, with prizes given to the winners of a costume-judging contest, music, entertainment, good food and plenty of beverages.
Located one level below the city street, River Walk hold several restaurants, hotels and shops on both sides of the river. Take a narrated cruise on one of the charter barges, or indulge in a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride. A favorite destination with visitors, the Walk provides a vibrant nightlife scene for entertainment.
