The Alamodome in San Antonio, TXThe Alamodome is nestled on 57 acres just off of I-37 and within easy walking distance of the River Walk Convention Center. The multi-purpose facility was constructed in 1993 and can seat up to 72,000 people. The roof is suspended from four 100 foot tall masts. The ceiling height is 170 feet. It is the only facility in North America to house two Olympic-size ice rinks under one roof. Construction of the Alamodome required the removal of 400,000 tons of dirt and 26,000 dump truck loads. Featured annual events include the Dallas Cowboys training camp, the Texas Football Classic, and the Builders showcase expo. The Alamodome is the site of the annual Alamo Bowl, which matches teams from the Big Ten Conference and the Big 12 Conference. Every January the U.S. Army All-American Bowl is played at the Alamodome. The bowl game features the top 80 high school football players in the nation. |
