This little art community was originally a settlement of primitive huts for Spanish soldiers, after a series of changes, it is now one of the most beloved shopping districts in San Antonio. It offers a variety of fine arts shops in almost every medium, as well as cafes, restaurants, and more. The gorgeous buildings themselves, are worth looking into, but you'll want to make plenty of time to explore the neat little shops of La Villita.

Shops

  • Villita Stained Glass - Offering kaleidoscopes, sun catchers, original designs in glass, in bevels, sculptures, prisms, treasure boxes, candle holders, and more.
  • The Sutler - This little country store offers demonstrations of interactive life skills crafts of the period. They feature 18th and 19th century San Antonio history, books about La Villita Earthworks, Alamo Archaeological dig, and the little church, New Orleans 1840's perfume, jewelry, leather, and mid 19th century lifestyle crafts.
  • Scentchips USA - Home of the original Scentchips factory.
  • Originals - A community rock shop featuring crystals, minerals, lapidary art, one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry, and gifts.
  • Mustang Grey's - Featuring a unique blend of Texas clothing, hats, art, leather, and more.
  • Lone Star Mercantile - Original designs on t-shirts, casual wear, and jewelry, Texas cookbooks, gourmet foods, ornaments, and gifts.
  • Glassblower - Hand blown items like Christmas ornaments, figures, and animals. Visitors are able to actually see these pieces being made.
  • Chamade Jewelers - Offering fine jewelry in gold, platinum, turquoise, and more. Many pieces are handcrafted by local Native Americans.
  • Casa Manos Alegres - A wide variety of treasures that have been imported from Mexico and Guatemala, including nativity sets, woodcarvings, papier-mache, stoneware, and more.
  • Bonsai Arbor - Bonsai trees, tools, pots, and supplies.

Shops are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Bolivar Cafe - Serving up delicious sandwiches, burgers, tacos, ice cream, cold drinks, and beer. Open for breakfast and lunch.
  • Guadalajara Grill - Treating you to authentic Mexican, Tex-Mex, burgers, steaks, and more. Open for lunch and dinner. Full bar available.
  • Fig Tree Restaurant - Perfect for an elegant dinner for two. Have dinner served to you on an outdoor patio just feet from The Riverwalk. Serving continental cuisine, including lobster, Beef Wellington, Chateaubriand, and rack of lamb.
  • Little Rhein Steak House - A casual place for loved ones to gather and have a nice sit-down meal on a patio. Serving escargots, stuffed jalepenos, prime steaks, lamb chops, Norweigan salmon, and cold water Australian lobster tail.

  • Village Gallery -  ACraft store that specializes in handmade stoneware and porcelain pottery.

Hotels near La Villita

While in La Villita, be sure to visit The Little Church. It was constructed in 1879, and several different denominations have held services here. It is now an active non-denominational church and is just absolutely gorgeous. Tall trees and an iron fence only add to the already dramatic sight.
