The Institute of Texan Cultures
The Institute of Texan Cultutres museum is home to more than 50,000 square feet of exhibits telling the story of how this amazing state came to be what it is today.
With the exciting theme parks, historical sites, fabulous nightlife, and more in San Antonio, you will want to take some time to kick back and relax in the great outdoors while you're visiting the area. The Hemisfair Park is located in downtown San Antonio at the site of the World's Fair. This 15-acre park boasts lush landscaping, cascading waterfalls, restored historic buildings including the Tower of the Americas, the Mexican Cultural Institute, the Institute of Texan Cultures, and more. With its convenient downtown location within walking distance of the Texas A&M San Antonio University, the Universidad de Mexico, and other sites, this park is a popular spot for taking a break in the middle of the city. Inside the city, you will also find the 46-acre San Pedro Springs Park. This park originally was commissioned as public land by the Spanish government in the 18th century and now stands as a historical landmark as well as a beautiful outdoor area. On-site, you will find a pool, a gazebo, restrooms, a skate plaza, a playground, a softball complex, and tennis courts. The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park sits on 819 acres and boasts four missions on-site. While visiting this park, you can explore the Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, Mission Espada, and Mission Concepcion. Visiting this park is a great way to enjoy the history of the area while taking in some fresh air. The Lady Bird Johnson Park is a popular family destination, and is ideally suited for a variety of activities. With a new skating facility, as well as a softball complex, a hiking trail, a tennis courts, and a swimming pool, there is something for everyone at this park.. The Olmos Basin Park is popular for visitors and locals alike. With mature trees located throughout the park, you will find plenty of shade to get out of the Texas sun. This park offers twenty picnic areas as well as paved and gravel trails for jogging and biking that line a babbling creek. At the Medina River Park, you will find 364 acres of unspoiled natural area with the gorgeous Medina River running through the park. On-site, you can explore the El Camino Real, which was a wagon trail that Mexican settlers used to travel into Texas. You can also kick back and enjoy the great outdoors with camping, hiking, and more available on-site.
