Six Flags Fiesta Texas, San Antonio

Remember The Alamo! San Antonio, Texas, is both home to the place where Santa Anna made his famous victory and also where Ozzy Ozbourne made an indecent public display that got the famed rocker banned from the Republic of Texas for 10 years!  Though don't worry, it has been a long time since either Mexican invaders or ill-behaved British louts have disturbed the peaceful nature of San Antonio. Now the city is home to beautiful parks, interesting museums and some of the most fun amusement parks in America!

Much of 18th Century San Antonio has been restored. It's San Antonio's beautiful landscaping and picturesque Spanish-colonial buildings that make this city so appealing.

Parks and Attractions:

  • The San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium is a wonderful zoo. The Witte Museum studies Texas culture, history and the natural environment. An excellent example of urban renewal, the Pasa Del Rio Riverwalk is a focal point in downtown San Antonio. Just outside the city to the northeast is the popular Natural Bridge Caverns.
  • But, what you probably want to visit first is the Alamo. This famous mission and landmark is where 189 American defenders held out for 13 days against the centralist army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Remember to wear your coonskin cap and pretend you are king of the wild frontier! The Alamo has become a symbol of Texas and American independence and fortitude.
  • The Lyndon B. Johnson State Historic Park exhibits displays memorabilia from LBJ's boyhood. You can visit historical cabins and farmsteads or take a bus tour of the LBJ Ranch.

Amusement Parks:

  • The Hertzberg Circus museum offers up Harry Hertzberg's collection of 2000 items, representing the American circus during the golden age from the 19th to the early-20th century. On hand are prints, rare posters and handbills, photographs, artifacts, costumes, programs, route books, newspaper and magazine clippings, videotapes, and professional journals.
  • The same company as SeaWorld in San Diego and Orlando runs SeaWorld San Antonio.  The marine life shows feature dolphins, killer whales, sea lions and many others. There are many thrilling rides for all to enjoy.
  • Six Flags Fiesta Texas is an exciting romp full of rides, shows and entertainment for all ages. Hold onto your seats though. The park is best known for a vast multitude of roller coasters, including the Superman Krypton Coaster, (the only floorless coaster in the southwest), the Rattler and the Joker's Revenge. You may scream yourself horse by the time you are done with these lightning-fast coasters. Just try not to lose your lunch!
  • Splashtown is set on 18 acres of cool, clean water. It is a perfect distraction during the long hot San Antonio summers! This water park has something for everyone. You can feel safe taking children to the scaled down rides at the kiddie area. Splashtown offers more than 50 rides, including a 7-story luge and the largest wave pool in Southern Texas. It is the cool place to be in summer!

Splashtown Waterpark
We loved Splashtown, while not as big as the other one - it did the job. We stayed for about 4 hours and had a blast. The kids wanted to go again!

SeaWorld - San Antonio
enjoyed the 3D movies but felt the shows with Shamu weren't as good a several years ago. It seemed the trainers just had the whales splash water on people for entertainment. Would be better if maybe they indicated how they trained the animals on their video screens with the results in real life. kids really enjoyed the water park.
