Running from late September through the end of October, you will find the Fall Harvest at the American West Heritage Center. This award-winning festival is a long-standing fall tradition in Salt Lake City, originally starting in 1917. Spanning the 160 acres of the American West Heritage Center in nearby Wellsville, you will find special events commemorating an older way of life for Salt Lake City's earlier settlers. You will find folks in period costume dressed as mountain me, military soldiers, and Indians, as well as vendors of today selling arts and crafts as well as snacks and drinks. Observe a number of traditional scenes and activities, such as lace making, butter churning, broom making, and a military encampment. Each day of the festival, the main draw is the demonstration of the 100-year old Gatling Gun and Cannon. To cap off your experience at the Fall Harvest, you will find live musical performances of a traditional genre, wood carving, blacksmith work, antique vendors, panning for gold, and free wagon rides. Over the Thanksgiving holiday each year, you will find plenty of family friendly activities and events throughout the city.
