Productions Recto -Verso began life as a group of eight experimental artists - Berri R. Bergeron, Jacinthe Harvey, Brigit Micho, Sylvain Miousse, Émile Morin, Marie Pelletier, Josée Tério and Réal Trottier. They formed the group in the early 1980s and were originally known as La Troupe de Théâtre La Séance. The aim of group was to present conceptual and experimental theater in smaller, less mainstream venues. The group created and produced various works including Destination St-Nil and Parcours scénographique, and later moved to Quebec where it changed its name to Productions Recto-Verso.
Production Recto-Verso became one of the founding members of the Méduse co-operative specializing in multi-disciplinary arts projects such as theater and multi media. The co-operative organizes the Mois Multi festival which feature groups and individuals from all over the world, and has been running since 2000.
Since its beginnings, over 20 years ago, Productions Recto-Verso has further developed experimental theater and performance, and has presented its productions in Canada and internationally. Its current members include lighting designers, visual and multi-media arts. It has also undertaken the management of the Multi Theatre and the Essai studio, and has expertise in staging events and exhibitions, supporting artists in residence, and audience research and development.
Productions Recto-Verso has performed in many festivals including Free Fall, a festival of experimental performance.
