Le Petit Séminaire de Québec, an IB World School for nearly 20 years (1991) is a private school that provides the International Baccalaureate Middle Years program.& Approximately 600 students attend this program of international education.
International Baccalaureate is made up of three distinct programs, of which Middle Years is one. The mission of these programs is to do more than educate young minds. The additional task set by the system is to create a better world through the correct type of quality education.
One of the key methods for accomplishing this goal is to promote greater understanding between cultures and to foster respect between those cultures. International Baccalaureate staff and teachers feel that this can be accomplished through excellent leadership and by setting high standards.
International Baccalaureate works with "schools, governments and international organizations," developing methods and programs of study that will challenge students from around the world. The three programs focus on students ranging in age from 3 to 19. Around the globe, International Baccalaureate reaches more than 500,000 students in dozens of countries.
International Baccalaureate was created in Switzerland in the late 1960s, with the original purpose of helping students prepare for university study. At Le Petit Seminaire de Quebec Middle Years students range in age from 11 to 16. The program presents documents and other printed information in English, French, Chinese and Spanish.
