This village is not connected by road, which makes it accessible only by boat. The beach is beautiful and surprisingly uncluttered, and the village is comprised of a few hundred families at most. There's plenty to do at Quimixto, once you're here. For starters, you can venture into the serenity of the sparkling waterfall on horseback or a self-guided hiking expedition. The commercial shops which hawk tourist memorabilia are conspicuous by their absence, but you will certainly find the essentials to last you through a relaxing day at Quimixto. If you're looking for a complete experience in languor, then choose to spend all day perched atop a hammock, snoozing to the sounds of the lapping waves.
Accommodation here is a far cry from the lavish hotels you will find in the more commercial areas of Puerto Vallarta. Toned down to the bare minimum, you can certainly afford a complete day here, even if you're on a shoestring budget. The few restaurants in the village provide traditional, seafood dominated Mexican fare at very reasonable rates. if you happen to be in Quimixto during the Guadalupe festival, you can watch the sleepy community undergo a colorful and vibrant transformation with a colorful parade of fishing boats which weaves through the village to the strains of hymns sung to commemorate the Virgin. Several baptisms, communions and weddings are scheduled to coincide with this day, leading to festivities lingering on to late hours.
All in all, Quimixto allows you the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta, while just being a boat ride away from all the action!
