Playa Mismaloya in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

With the gentle waters of the blue Pacific Ocean and the breathtaking area of Puerto Vallarta, Playa Mismaloya has seen movie productions staring Ava Gardner and Arnold Schwarzenegger to family vacations. The beach itself is located in the Bay of Mismaloya. There is a section of the beach that is reserved only for guests of the Mismaloya, but there remains a large part of this wonderful beach open to the public.

Playa Mismaloya is best known for the movie Night of the Iguana which still draws tourists to the area to see where the movie was filmed. La Noche de Iguana Set Restaurant is dedicated to the movie and its influence where several still photos are on display and the famous movie plays continously. Though, for those that either unfamiliar with the movie, or are just looking for a good beach; Playa Mismaloya is ideal.

The beach is relatively quiet though it is close enough to hotels and resorts that access is simple and quick. Snorkeling is among the favorite activities of Playa Mismaloya. The cove provides a wonderful sanctuary for marine life. Vibrant fish can often be seen darting through the waters.  Rest along the beach, catching the rays or read a book in the shades of the palapas trees.

Playa Mismaloya is a beach of serene beauty that is fortunate enough not to be too overcrowded. There are several restaurants and lodgings in and around the Playa Mismaloya area.
