A marvelous playland in the middle of Portland, Washington Park is brimming with so many things to do and see that visitors will want to set aside a nice chunk of time to take advantage of all it has to offer. The 130 acres of wild forest and miles of trails will lure hikers and nature lovers, as will the Hoyt Arboretum, Japanese Garden, International Rose Test Garden, Chiming Fountain, and World Forestry Center.
The Children's Museum 2nd Generation and the Oregon Zoo are great for families, while history buffs will want to see the memorials dedicated to Vietnam Veterans, Lewis and Clark, and Sacajawea, the Shoshone woman who guided their expedition through the mountains. Play areas, sports fields, fountains, and an amphitheatre promise something for everyone. And for a bit of nostalgia, visitors can hop aboard the 1950s Washington Park and Zoo Railroad for a trip from the zoo to the rose garden.
