One of the most unusual and selective colleges in the country, Reed College offers a traditional liberal arts curriculum with a unique approach to learning. The epitome of community-centered living, the College features small class sizes that encourage student-centered seminar-style learning, and a regulation-free campus that operates on an honor system wherein the students are responsible for policing themselves and resolving conflicts. More intriguingly, Reed is the only college in the country to have a nuclear reactor operated by science students.
Adding to the College's uniqueness is the fact that the campus is bisected by the Reed College Canyon, a wildlife preserve traversed by the famous Blue Bridge. Visitors can join students and park workers for Canyon Day, the biggest event of the year in which everyone comes together for a day of restoration projects. The College offers many free events for the public, including art exhibits, performances, lectures, and the summer chamber music festival and picnic.
