In 1974 two local craftspeople got together with the vision of creating an outlet where customers could find locally-produced items and local artisans could have an outlet for their work. Their vision paid off, and today the Portland Saturday Market is one of the largest outdoor markets in the U.S. Held in the historic Old Town District every weekend from March to December, the market features over four hundred vendors who attract almost a million visitors a year.
Travelers to the area will not want to miss the wonderful array of goods on display. With strict guidelines still enforced, every item at the market is judged for quality and must be handmade by the person selling it. The market also features an impressive roster of international food vendors from the Kathmandu Café to Cool City Kettle Corn. Free children's activities and live music and performances add to the festive atmosphere and make the market a must-see Portland attraction.
