Lewis & Clark State Park near Portland, OR
Situated near the mouth of the Sandy River where it meets the Columbia River, the Lewis & Clark State Park occupies the site where the legendary expedition made camp in 1805 and set out to explore the Columbia River Gorge and surrounding area. A popular day-use park, visitors will find the grassy tree-dotted lawns a pleasant retreat in which to spend a relaxing day of picnicking and sun bathing. A hiking trail leads up the cliffs to Broughton's Bluff, while a nearby swimming spot on the Sandy River offers a public boat launch and a place to cool off.
