Located in Ainsworth State Park in the Columbia River Gorge, the stunning 178-foot high, 15-foot wide Horsetail Falls can be reached by an easy half-mile trail that leads to the top of the falls. Another breathtaking perspective is in store for hikers as they follow the path up to and behind the Ponytail Falls, a smaller nearby cascade.
A high footbridge crossing the Oneonta Gorge reveals a close-up view of another waterfall and leads finally to the Tripple Falls, an excellent spot to take a picnic break. Though the hiking trails have some rough spots requiring a little boulder climbing, the paths are suitable for kids and the payoff is worth the extra effort. A fantasyland of deep woods, beautiful waterfalls, and steep canyons, the Horsetail Falls area offers visitors miles of moderate hikes, great camping, and magnificent scenery.
