Created in 1927 by Universal Pictures, the Bagdad Theater and Pub was originally designed as a fantastical movie palace and vaudeville venue with a Middle-Eastern flair, right down to the Arabian-style uniforms of the ushers. Brightly colored mosaics, mythical creatures, and Mediterranean art cover the walls of this ornate building, which features an expansive stage, wrought-iron accents, grand archways, a sweeping colonnade, and a fountain.
Visitors are transported back to the Golden Age of Hollywood when the Bagdad presented a wide range of shows from epic films to vaudeville performers like Sammy Davis Jr. Still in use today, comfy chairs and sofas welcome film buffs, the Bagdad Pub refreshes with over two hundred different ales, and visitors can sit back and enjoy an evening amidst the glamour and grandeur of the Hawthorn District's most unique movie hall.
