Two of Newberg's famous historical structures are the Hoover- Minthorn House on South River Street, the boyhood home of President Herbert Hoover (now a museum), and the J. T. Smith House on North College Street. Both are on the National Register. A walking tour of historic Newberg North Side will take you through one of the city's finest residential areas. Most of the 29 historic residences were constructed from 1890 to 1912. Many were built and occupied by Newberg's prominent citizens, and represent a variety of architecture. The tour takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
George Fox University has a display of Hoover memorabilia in the Hoover Academic Building on campus. Also, Minthorn Hall, where Herbert Hoover lived while attending Friends Pacific Academy (the predecessor of George Fox University), has been named to the National Register of Historic Places. A display of ongoing artworks can be enjoyed at Newberg Public Library, at George Fox University (during the school term) in the Ross Gallery, and at the Red Hills Gallery — all in or near Newberg.
