Portland Rose Festival
Portland???s three-week-long Rose Festival starts in late May and continues through June, and celebrates the Rose City???s most celebrated flower with parades, floats, and hundreds of events. Over two million people visit Portland, Oregon each spring to visit this charming city, learn about the heritage of the Pacific Northwest, and take part in the many family-friendly activities available. The Grand Floral Parade, an all-floral parade focused on roses, is one of the most popular and well-known events at the festival. Visitors and locals alike can also view fireworks, watch local musicians, run or walk for charity, and even participate in a dragon boat race on the Columbia River. Fleets from the US Navy even come in for a few days to partake in the patriotic Memorial Day festivities. In the spring, Portland sheds its rainy wintry weather for sun and warmth, making it a perfect time to visit. The International Festivals and Events Association named the Rose Festival the Best Festival in the World in 2007.
