The Wood Street Galleries in Pittsburgh, PA features work from multi-disciplinary artists around the world. It's located at Wood Street and Sixth Avenue about the T-Station. The facility provides home and tools for small arts organizations through its shared office space program.
A large portion of the Wood Street Galleries money comes from dedicated patrons. The gallery also receives support from the Howard Heinz Endowment and the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts. Additional support for the gallery comes from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and the Port Authority of Allegheny County. Exhibits are deal with a variety of art forms and are staggered throughout all seasons of every year. Here are a few past exhibits. Echo: An exhibit that investigates the mysteries of perception. Purpose of the exhibit was to shift from the material to the metaphysical. Laser Sound Performance: An exhibit by Edwin van der Heide who is known as an autonomous artist in the field of space, sound and interaction. His work is unique and is typically hard to define using traditional terms of music.
Exhibit used custom-built sensor based instruments. Most of this artist's work is focused on sound installations and environments.
Art in the Round: An exhibit that explores the notion of the cyclical in space and time. Artists who participated in this exhibit recreated and filmed miniatures of themselves on a rotating set. The artists bought many of the subjects in this exhibit from an abandoned storage locker. Photography was done using a multi-aperture camera to produce distorted images of cityscape to create seemingly phantom environments.
