Lidia's Italian restaurant was opened in Pittsburgh's historic Strip district by Lidia and Joseph Batianich in 2001. The Strip is an area known for its old warehouse buildings and is a popular place to shop, dine and enjoy the lively nightlife. Lidia's restaurant is housed in one of the historic warehouses and has been designed by New York architect David Rockwell and echoes their other restaurant in New York and Kansas City. The restaurant interior is stylish with funky red chairs and booths, chandeliers fashioned from grappa bottles, and colored glass panels around the walls.
The restaurant menus feature the best in traditional and contemporary Italian cuisine. For lunch try the pasta tasting trio where you can sample three pastas dishes featuring freshly-made filled pasta, risotto and polenta. Lunch entrees include Fritto Misto - fried calamari and shrimp, Gnocchi con Anitra in Guazzetto - potato dumplings with slow-cooked duck or the Sarme-Carpucci Ripieni with braised cabbages leaves filled with pork and veal.
Dinner entrees include Fegatini di Pollo — chicken livers served with polenta, the classic Lasagna alla Bolognese, and Manicotti de Ricotta pasta filled with ricotta and mozzarella. Meat dishes include the Stinco di Agnello, - Venetian-spiced braised lamb shank and the Bistecca alla Pittsburgh seasoned with Mediterranean favorites - rosemary and anchovies.
There is a family brunch set menu with Bloody Marys served on a Saturday and Sunday.. The Sunday lunch menu includes 'Lidia's Sunday Sauce with classic meatballs, pork and Italian sausage. The dessert menu features many classic Italian desserts such as tiramisu and biscotti.
