Named after Senator John Heinz, the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh is the largest history museum in the state. It is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institute and highlights a number of both permanent and traveling exhibitions. Of course, one of these is the above-referred to sports museum called the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum. It highlights the Pittsburgh Steelers many seasons as well as other sports like bocce and track.
You would enjoy the log cabin exhibit which replicates an original one from the late 1790s. Within this exhibit, you can learn more about the immigrants who settled in the area and shaped the very history of the state. There are some fascinating details about the Underground Railroad and you can even hop on an original 1940s trolley. The history of Pennsylvania has come to life with the Heinz History Center.
