The Fuel and Fuddle is located in the Oakland district of Pittsburgh and attracts an interesting mix of diners including local office workers looking for lunch or a bite to eat after work, and a young student crowd from the nearby University campus. The place has a lively atmosphere and serves a great selection of food and beers.
The Fuel and Fuddle was opened by three friends, already local restaurant owners, who decided to bring in the help of a top chef friend to design their menu. The result is their 'wildfire' menu, with food cooked in an exposed brick oven. The friends also had a dream to own their own beer, and currently the Troegs Brewery brews two own label beers - the popular Fuel and Fuddle, and Fire Brick Brown Ale. These are served in the restaurant alongside another 8 tap beers. There are many other beer choices to be had, and the beer selection runs to four pages of the menu.
The restaurant serves large portions of their 'wildfire food', and all the menu items have quirky names including the Thai me up skewers, fire-kissed quesadillas and kick-gas nachos. The Fuel and Fuddle is known for its 'live fire pies' — thin-crusted pizzas fired in the brick oven - served with more than 10 toppings including the classic maggie, the big fat jerk and hummus amongus. The menu also features salads and soups, and a great sandwich selection including the classic veg head, crabby patties and Joe mama's meatloaf — all served on Italian twists with fries. There is a great brunch menu with French toast, pancakes and omelets
