The Hall of Flame Fire Museum is located in Phoenix and houses a collection of nearly a hundred restored pieces of fire apparatus, the earliest dating from 1725. The majority of the pieces are from America however there are also examples from England, France and Japan. The Museum, funded by the National Historical Fire Foundation, also houses the National Firefighting Hall of Heroes which commemorates hundreds of firefighters who lost their lives, and honors those that have been decorated for their bravery. The Museum has five galleries and a small theater that shows films relating to many aspects of fire fighting history. It is possible to board and sit in some of the fire engines, and there is a fire safety exhibit with activities for children.
The Museum houses over 40 pieces of fire apparatus that were either moved by hand or by horses. These date from 1725 to 1908 and feature engines, ladders and hose wagons. Throughout the galleries there are examples of motorized fire engines dating from 1897 that have been fully restored and include the 1951 American la France Model 700 that can be boarded for photo opportunities. There is a large collection of engravings, prints, paintings and insurance firemarks. Visitors can search the computerized catalogues for their local fire station and see their arm patches displayed in the Museum.
The Hall of Heroes has an exhibition about the experiences of the firefighters who are honored here. The museum also has a Wildland Firefighting Gallery which displays the specialist apparatus and equipment used by firefighters to deal wit the specific challenges of wildland fires.
